What was the reaction of the sparrows at the end of the story a polarity of a lady

When author and his family members were taking her for cremation they saw thousand of sparrows were not chirping. when the author's mother threw the bread to them the sparrows took not notice of the bread . when they flew away quietly . this was the way in which this sparrows express sorrows .
