according to the scientific purview this question is meaningless. asking what caused or triggered the Big Bang is meaningless?. because big bang itself was a cosmic origin. I don't know what was before that even i m in search of the origin and the fate of the universe?. how universe was created if physics states matter can neither be created nor be destroyed?. I m still in search of that but you know at the very beginning of my journey of delving secrets of the cosmos I wanted to have answers for everything but now I respect the fact that I can't have answers for everything.
so space and time both started writing the time of big bang only if it is true. space and time can't be independent so big bang itself was the beginning of time. and that is cosmic origin. according to me The Big Bang theory is not a theory of the creation of the universe rather it is the history of universe not geography or science of universe. it is still a deep mystery of cosmos which still lie at the heart of space time. we just don't know what was before the Big Bang. before 10^-36 seconds, we simply don't understand the nature of the universe or how universe works? The Big Bang theory is fantastic at describing everything after that, but before it, we're a bit lost and surely is not able to define the very nature of universe.  in my purview universe began with the quantum fluctuation of energy. so cosndiring quantum fluctuation as the beginning of universe is a good idea and can define the origin of universe too.

hope it helped you
