The reason for building the Red Fort was to serve it as a palace for 'Mughal Emperor 'Shah Jahan'.

Explanation:

  • Under the rule of the Shah Jahan, a number of iconic constructions were made in India, including the Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, and Red Fort.
  • The aim behind the construction of Red Fort was to treat it as a palace when the 'capital of India' was shifted from Agra to that of Delhi.
  • The preliminary structure was constructed by Shah Suri, which was eventually taken up and made more regal by Shah Jahan.
