Somesvara IV, the son of Talipa III ascended the Chalukya throne but he failed to safeguard the Chalukyan power and was defeated in AD 1190 by the Hoysala Balala II and thus ended the Western Chalukyan power of Kalyani. The death of Vikramaditya VI saw the beginning of the decline of Chalukyan power.
