The reason for the civil war to occur in Srilanka was because of the majoritarianism.
The democratically elected goverment adopted a series of majoritarianism by making sinhala as the official language.
The goverment also followed preferential policies that favoured sinhala applicants for the jobs.
These decisions gradually increased the feeling of alienation among the srilankan tamils.
Then they launched parties and struggles for the oppurtunity.
The sinhalas denied and it soon turned into civil war.
It made a huge loss to Srilanka and reduced it's GDP as well.
