What was the reason that Britishers neglected walled city

the area around the fort was completely filled with garden,pavilions and mosques .the British wanted the clear ground for security reasons.there were many reasons to be neglected the walled city.which are as follows:

1.the Zinat-al-masjid was converted into bakery.

2.in 1870 the walls of shahjahanabad were broken to establish the railway and to allow the city to expand beyond the walls.

3.the Daily collage was turned into school and shut down in 1877.
