What was the reasons for putting barriers to foreign trade?

Answer:To help traders within the country.

As foreign trade and their products flood to Indian market, they are available cheap in our locality. So we tend to buy those things and we ourselves prevent the growth of merchants within our country. This is the main reason.

Other reasons would be lack of signing the trade bill, bad quality products and troubles with the trading companies. We also raise import duties to put as a barrier against foreign trade.
