after the civil war in Sri Lanka the sinhala community gained more power than the Sri Lankan Tamilans.

During the civil war, Sinhala community was in majority. They wanted to rule over the country.
Sinhala language and Buddhism was restricted to adopt for all communities. All other communities protested against them but defeated. Sinhala's population was about 70%. Indian Tamils was about 14% and about 16% were Muslims.
