In July 1954, the Geneva Agreements were endorsed.  As part of the settlement, the French accepted to eliminate their troops from North Vietnam.

In the peace interventions in Geneva which were accompanied by the French failure, the Vietnamese were convinced to admit the division of the nation and due to this North and South Vietnam were divided. Whereas Ho Chi Minh and Communists seized control in North Vietnam while Bao Dai 's government was given authority in the south.
