David Scott, the Agent to the Governor General was placed in lower Assam with headquarters at Guwahati.It became chief administrative center of the Brahamputra Valley.

The treaty of yandoo signed in 24 februrary 1826 between the burmese king and british.  

Taking into consideration under British rule certain factors likestrategy, defence, trade and commerce, etc. chose certain places, where theyestablished military camps, as their administrative centres.

British established administrative centres at various sites which served both

their commercial and strategic purpose.
