The ANC (African National Congress) helped the blacks to get freedom from the white minority rule by the various revolts they did. The ANC was also called the umbrella organisation because it protects the blacks from ill treatment from the whites. Nelson Mandela was the most active person during this time. He with 7 other leaders were put behind bars for 28 years. Only by the help of ANC the blacks were able to get freedom.
