Answer:

i) Protection from pirates

ii) Protection of land and sea

iii) Resolving conflicts

Explanation:

In 1971 the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was created by the Sheikhdoms of Sharjah, Fujairah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai.  Previously they were known as the Trucial States, which was a collection of sheikhdoms that extended from the Straits of Hormuz to the west along the Persian Gulf. The British played a significant role in the unification of UAE; first, the British attacked pirates to protect its trade with India which resulted in ties with the 'Trucial States' emirs. Secondly, the Sheikhdoms signed a treaty with the British in 1892 thus became a British protectorate meaning that they would receive protection if attacked by land or sea. Lastly due to the conflicts witnessed before, the Trucial States agreed to resolve future disputes through the British Authorities.
