Women in Nazi Germany were to have a very specific role. Hitler was very clear about this. This role was that they should be good mothers bringing up children at home while their husbands worked.

In Nazi Germany women were considered to be different from men. The Nazis did not believe in equal rights for men and women. They felt that equal rights would destroy the society. Young women were told to become good mothers, look after the home and rear pure – blooded Aryan children.

Hitler also introduced awards and medals for women who gave birth to more than one pure Aryan child.

The guidelines for being an ideal woman in Nazi Germany were as follows:

  1. Women should not work for a living
  2. Women should not wear trousers
  3. Women should not wear makeup
  4. Women should not wear high-heeled shoes
  5. Women should not dye or perm their hair
  6. Women should not go on slimming diets
