what was the role of philosophers in french society

Philosophers played an important role in French society as they changed the entire society by French Revolution.
They were the one who used to think and question the ruling of monarchial government and the also made the people to read books and hence not to be fooled by that monarchial government

Jean Jacque Rousseau wrote the Social Contract. He gave an idea of formation of a government based on social contract between people and their representative
John Locke wrote Two Treatises Of Government and criticize the divine and absolute rights of rulers
Montesquieu wrote The Spirit Of Law.He believed in division of power between three organs of government
philosophers want a society based on freedom and equal laws and opportunity for all
Their ideas were discussed in salon s and coffee houses and inspired the people to fight for their rights!!
