It is a french word meaning people residing in a walled city.the borgeoisi was the so called middle class in the frnch society distinctly different from the landed gentry or the landless proletariats. The french revolution is rightly called a revolution of the borgeoisi. Cuz in it the so called middle class took power forcibly from the rulling class by revolution

They revolutionised industry,trade,commerce and modernized the society and leading to a more democratic form of government. The borgeoisi was a not a homogeneous class but consisted of ppl who played an important role in the daily functioning of the country.
