The people arranged a protest against the arrest of Satyapal and Dr.Saiffuddin Kitchlew who led this protest. The protesters assembled at Jallianwallabagh in Amritsar. This city was under control of British army. Accusing that the protesters violated his instructions, the army chief General Dyer ordered to shoot without warning the people. The innocent armless people were trapped as the place was sorrounded by buildings and the only entrance was blocked by the British soldiers. As per the British records, the shooting of ten minutes killed 379 protesters. In fact the death toll was actually double this.
