In December 1929, under the Presidentship of Jawaharlal Nehru, the Lahore Congress formalised the demand of 'Purna Swaraj' or full independence for India. It was declared that 26 January 1930, would be celebrated as the Independence Day when people were to take a pledge to struggle for complete independence. It is out of the topic but that's why 26 January celebrated as Republic Day because the government applied the constitution on that day because they could not get Independence on that day they applied the constitution and it is celebrated as Republic Day.
