Mara narrared the king about his dream in which the goddess of the river commanded him to tell the king to build a tank around the river Veda and stop it's flowing away. Mara where he met the king told him that the place where they stood was a scared spot because that was the place Lord Hanuman had stood upon once. Later, he had gone up the mountains to bring Sanjeevini, the magical herb. From the place where the herb grew, a stream began, came down the mountain and became the river Veda which flowed near the town . It's water was the life saver of the people of Sakkarepatna, but in the summer months, it dries up and the town has to go without water. If the king believed Mara's dream and acted upon it, the town of Sakkarepatna would never be deprived of water, even in the hottest summer.

➜ The dreams which Mara saw showed how important the rivers are to man's existence. People take the rivers for granted and do not care for them .
➜ The river in this story ensured that people of the kingdom benefited from its waters.
➜ But at the same time the Goddess had also told Mara that the river Veda was her plaything, she could do as she liked and even destroy the place through flooding. This shows how nature is unpredictable sometimes.
