The single hope for Lencho was help from God.

Lencho was a hard-working farmer with immense faith in God. Even after the hailstorm destroyed everything and he had no crop, food or money to sustain his family until the next season, Lencho did not give up hope. Instead, he pinned his hopes on God, for there was a saying in Lencho’s region– ‘no one dies of hunger’. The belief was that God could see everything, including the difficult circumstances of the people and would certainly help. That is why Lencho wrote a letter to God, to reprise Him of his situation, and to ask him for a hundred pesos.
