A subsistence crisis is an extreme situation where the basic means of livelihood are endangered.
From 1715-1789,the population of France rose from 23 billion to 28 billion,but the food production didn't kept Pace with the increasing population.The price of bread rose which was the staple diet of majority of people during that time.The workers were employed as labourers whose owners fixed their wages but it doesn't kept pace with increasing prices.The situation became worse when bad climatic conditions destroyed the harvest.This led to subsistence crisis.
