Subsistence crisis is a crisis caused by economic factors, which in turn may be caused by either natural or man-made factors, which threatens the food supplies and the survival prospects of large numbers of people.

Hi friend,

Subsistence crisis is a situation in which the basic needs of people are in danger.

In French the following situations led to subsistence crisis--:

<>Population increased from 23 million in 1715 to 28 million in 1789.

<>As population increased the demand for food grains also increased. So increase in demand of food grains also led to subsistence crisis.

<>And laboures income was fixed by the owner of the shops but that income doesn't keep pace with the increasing demand of food grains and the risen prices

<>And when any natural disaster came the crops were destroyed which added fuel to fire.

Hope it helps.....
