Gaston did not want to buy the house, even after Jeanne's repeated requests. So, when Juliette takes Jeanne upstairs to show more of her house, Mrs. Al Smith comes and buys the house, thinking that the owner was Gaston. So, when Jeanne came down with Juliette he immediately agreed to buy the house, as to make a profit. This was the surprise awaiting Jeanne when she came down with Juliette.
