Voting in the estate general had been conducted according to the principle that each estate had one vote.

But members of the third estate demanded that voting now be conducted by the assembly as a whole, where each member would have one vote.

This was one of the democratic principles put forward by Rousseau in his book 'the social contract'.

When the king rejected this proposal, members of the 3rd estate walked out in protest.

Answer:

in the early eighteenth century france was having a old regime and the ruler can't simply impose any kind of tax within the society without conducting a estate general. In this estate general 300 representative were send from both clergy and nobility estate whereas 600 representative were send from the 3rd estate. however it was quite unfair as the from both clergy and nobility the total representative would be 300+300 that are 600 and they only consist 10% of the french population and on the other hand 600 representative were send by 90% of the french population. after that voting would take place that if the society is agreed with the fact that one more new tax will be imposed in that also the voting would not be democratic which is one person one vote one value however in the french society the voting structure was 1 estate 1 vote and it was undemocratic because clergy and nobility were like friends they used to agree with the king and the 3rd estate cannot do anything because two votes comes from both the other estate. one reason that clergy and nobility agree was that also that they don't bother wheather the kind impose any new tax or not as the tax was only to be paid by the 3rd estate.

the change that the people of 3rd estate wanted was they need 1 person 1 vote so that they could be there in the competetion.
