The theory of Individualism as an ideology and political philosophy emphasized the importance of individual in society and state. It regards the individual as center of universe, social life and state. It provides for the all sorts of liberty and freedom to the individual.

The theory of Individualism restricts the role of state in the affairs of the individual. The role of the state should be to increase the happiness of individual.

John Stuart mill was the great propounded of Individualism and developed his own theory of Individualism. He was concerned for industrial workers and wage slavery which he regarded as great injustice. Mills' theory of Individualism regards individuals as the arbiters of their own actions and thus was the greatest profounder of liberalism.
