Summary of Twenty minutes with Mrs Oakentubb:
Mrs. Oakentubb arrives at a rural railroad station via train. It was a squall line night. in order for her to warm up. She would travel to Stainthorpe, where she was from, by boarding a train that was scheduled to arrive in 20 minutes from now. A man enters as she stretches her hands toward the fire and takes off her gloves. He was on the same train as Mrs. Oakentubb to Stainthorpe.
As the porter departs, the two begin speaking. The Man informs Mrs. Oakentubb that he would be visiting Stainthorpe to meet Mrs. Oakentubb. I saw a picture of her in a newspaper, he claims, but I couldn't tell what she looked like.He claims that I will see her for a crucial topic. The Man accuses her of killing his wife and daughter in a vehicle accident during the conversation. Mrs. Oakentubb argues in her favour by claiming it was an accident. Police referred to it as manslaughter. Mrs. Oakentubb was driving very quickly to win a £5/= bet while she was at a cocktail party. Mrs. Oakentubb murdered the daughter and wife of the Man. She was given a police sentence of 18 months in prison, which she had already served.
However, the Man is not happy with how she was punished. In addition to killing his wife and daughter, she also destroyed his family life, therefore he intended to punish her and exact revenge. The Man then takes out his pistol and shoots her.
But Mrs. Oakentubb deceives the Man by making him believe that killing her would be in her best interests; otherwise, she would continue to torture him mentally by constantly staring at his daughter's and wife's crushed-to-death bodies. She will always be plagued by this horrific scene and the accident's image, which is awful for her. She motions with her hand and cries out, but he pushes her down, causing her to tumble to the ground and begin to sob. She is believed by the Man, who then exits the waiting area. She leaps to her feet in pleasure as soon as he leaves and "puts her fingers on the nose, at him."
The door suddenly opens, allowing the Man to enter and retrieve his bags. What he observes incenses him greatly. He draws his handgun and fires. She passes away. The Man thus exacts his retribution.
Therefore, the time was stormy winter evening and the scene was almost in darkness.
