The tripartite struggle was the war between the Palas, Gurjara Pratiharas and the Rashtrakutas. The land in between the ganges basin was very fertile and rich in agriculture. Thus the fight for the authority to rule over this land began in the 9th century and continued on till the end of the tenth century, eventually draining the 3 kingdoms of their resources and strength, paving way for the other smaller empires to rule the lands.
