Answer:In 'The Portrait of The Lady' by Kushwant Singh, when the author Kushwant and his grandmother move to the city the turning point occurs in their lives. As a child, he was completely dependent upon his grandmother but when they move to a city, the grandmother no longer accompanied the narrator till the school and she was unable to help him with his studies. She was distressed with the things being taught in school and that there was no teaching about scriptures and gods. By being silent she displayed his disapproval. Later, when the narrator moves to the college he is given separate room and their common friendship starts fading. Though much happened, still both cared and loved each other deeply. When the narrator goes to the abroad for higher studies the grandmother goes to the railway station to see him off and kissed him on his forehead by showing no emotions. Perhaps, this was the last physical contact they had and after the return of the author, the grandmother received him and clasped him in her arms.
