The common link of friendship between the author and his grandmother was their living together in the village in the same house. This link was snapped when they were called to the city. The author was admitted to an English school. She could not help him with his subjects now. When he further grew up and joined a university, he was given a separate room which broke the link of their friendship.

The turning point in the friendship of grandmother and the narrator is when the moved to the city. now the narrator would go to his school by motor bus. although they shared the same room but he cold spend less time with grandmother now grandmother could no longer accompany him to the school nor could she teach him the lessons that were taught to him in his new school . he was being taught music in his school which the grandmother did not like. she was now left in seclusion and with nothing to do. as the time passed the author and his grandmother began to get far from each other.
