Nancy was Helen’s rag-doll that she always carried with her. In May 1888 Helen visited Boston along with Miss Sullivan. At Perkins Institute Nancy got quite dirty while playing. Seeing the doll dirty, the laundress at the Perkins Institute too k Nancy to give her a wash. The bath completely destroyed the doll. She looked a formless heap of rags and cotton. Helen had to discard her deformed beloved doll.

Nancy was Helen
Keller’s favorite ragged doll that she took with her wherever she went to. One
such place was to the Perks Institute in Boston that she visited along with her
teacher Ms Anne Sullivan. Unfortuntely, the doll became dirty and the laundress
decided to wash it for Helen Keller. But, when she did this, the rags came off
and the doll became just a pile of rags and cotton. There was no other option
for Helen but to bid goodbye to her doll.
