What was Tumbull’s reaction to Private Quelch’s answer ?

Corporal Turnbull was at first kind of irritated, later on Private Quelch kept  interrupting and tried to make the Corporal feel illiterate in front of him, instead it instilled a sense of anger to an extent where he assigned him cookhouse duties.
