What was unusual that day

I'm assuming this is from 'The Last Lesson'

What was unusual was that there was no noise and the street too was quiet. Further, M Hamel had appeared to class in his special dress that he only wore on special occasions. Also, in the back of the class- there were the villager elders who never normally attended school
