When we have fear of something, it paralyses us. Even if we capable of doing some work and we have fears in our mind, it will only make us weak. However, if we overcome it, we can perform even the difficult tasks easily. We should face the situation courageously instead of running away from it. By quoting Roosevelt, “All we have to fear is fear itself,” Douglas indicates the larger meaning that he draws from his experience. For him, the importance of life became evident when he encountered death or rather its proximity threatening his life.
