Since social media isn’t the only form of communication, that is just one way to communicate any information you have to share. If you are asking about the forms of communication like broadcast media (TV, streaming, radio), phone, email, websites or mail — those are other forms to disseminate information. If we lost the ability to speak and use language, then society would be pretty much restricted to sign language or pantomime although those are ways to communicate as well.

Humans evolved because we communicate to each other or to groups. Even before written language was invented, oral stories were shared in groups using mnemonics to assist with memory (like songs, poetry, or imagery). For example, the Iliad and the Odyssey was originally handed down to future generations of Greeks by certain storytellers who told only a part they had memorized in poetic oral storytelling (epic poems). All of the oral stories were then combined by Homer hundreds of years after they supposedly happened. The information had changed so much that’s why it was an “epic” task and almost impossible to pinpoint the exact location of the famed city of Troy by simply deciphering the meanings in the poetry. So, communication is an integral part of what makes us human and if our ability to communicate was lost we’d be starting civilization all over again.
