Wealthy individuals owned and controlled most of the land.
The government of Rome was corrupt.
Civil war broke out.
Explanation:
- In the Roman Empire there was unequal distribution of wealth that created social problems. The lower class people, mainly serfs led a brutal living with very few privileges & no hope for betterment. The equally small and wealthy class had controlled majority of the land & all of the wealth
- Civil war brought anarchy to the empire; more than 20 people , usually after the assassination of their leader, took their throne in just 75 years. The Pretorian Guard — a personal bodyguard of the Emperor — murdered and set up new sovereigns to be able to do so, and once even auctioned up the position.
- The Roman Senate was also a bureaucratic mess, and because of its large hypocrisy and incompetence, the emperors were unable to control the excesses. As things worsened, civic pride declined and many Roman citizens lost confidence in their leadership.
- Before the Roman Empire was established, Caesar's Civil War became one of the last political-military conflicts in the Roman Republic. It started as a "series" of political & militarized confrontations between his supporters & his legions, against the "Optimates (or Boni)," the politic-conservative group of the Roman Senate, backed by Pompey & his legion.
