servant’s room attached to it. The house was covered with vines, climbing roses

and honeysuckles. From the garden it looked like an arbour. The little porch of

the house was hidden from view by a screen of yellow roses and Southern smilax.

Humming-birds and bees had made it their favourite haunt.
