Raja Ram Mohan Roy was the founder of Brahmo Samaj in 1828. His was one among the few who received modern education thus came in contact with democratic and secular ideals. His contributions to Indain society can be understood in three spheres- social, religious and education.
R.R Mohan Roy and religion:-
His actions were indeed fruitful with the Abolition of Sati act , 1829. The concept of widow remarriage was also injected into the orthodox society that discriminate widows.
RR Mohan Roy and Education:
He believed that Indian masses should have access to Education. He was ardent supporter of education and introduction of education in schools.There was also special emphasis on education of girls. The Anglo-Hindu school, 1822 and later Vedanta college started by him are known for their modem and western curriculum along with his teachings of monotheism (one god).
RR Mohan Roy and Society:-
Journals in English, Hindi and Bengali were brought out by him which helped to carry reforms to the masses. He vehemently fought for freedom of press, representation of Indians in employment of opportunities. He sough to educate people of their political rights. His visions for a democratic , secular and rational society were carried forward by Brahmo Samaj.
