The provisional election was done by the British India in the winter of 1963-1937.
This was done as a mandate of the Government of India Act 1935. The election were held in 11 provinces including Madras, Central Province, Bihar, Bengal, Bombay, United Province, Punjab, Sindh, Assam, NWFP and Orissa.
The Indian National Congress emerged in power with eight provinces and the All India Muslim League failed to form the government in any province.
