People, plants, animals and even ideas were transferred during the 15th and 16th centuries between Americas and Europe. This was as a result of Christopher Columbus’s 1492 voyage to the Americas. This exchange came to be popularly known as the Columbian Exchange.
But along with the material exchange, disease carrying germs and bacteria too were transferred, resulting in widespread diseases and death of several thousands of Native Americans.
