Following steps were taken by Musharraf in Pakistan to empower himself.

1. He overthrew a democratically elected government and declared himself the ‘Chief Executive’ of the country.

2.Later he changed his designation to President and in 2002 held a referendum in the country which granted him a five year extension. This referendum was illegal and was based on fraud and malpractice.

3. In 2002, he issued a ‘Legal Framework Order’ which changed the Constitution of Pakistan.According to this order, the President has the power to dismiss the national or provincial assemblies.

In Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf  led a military coup in October 1999. In order to empower himself, he took the following steps:

1. He removed a democratically elected government, and declared himself as the 'Chief Executive' of the country.

2. He changed his designation to the President and hold a referendum in 2002. He won the referendum by fraud and malpractice and got extension for five years.

3. In 2002, he issued a ' Legal framework Order' by which the constitution of Pakistan was amended. According to this order, the President can dismiss the national and provincial assemblies according to his will.
