1)1919,Rowlatt act was passed by the British govt. despite united opposition of the Indian members.

2)It gave enormous power to the government to repress political activities and allowed detention for two years without trail.

3)6 April,1919 Gandhiji started non violent civil disobedience against such act which would start a hartal and strike,but the British govt.brutally repressed nationalists.

4)General Dyer took charge and the Martial law was imposed.13 April 1919 Jallian Wala bagh Massacre,general dyer opened fire in the Bagh who assembled for attending the Bisakhi fair.

5)This violence forced Gandhiji to stop the movement after this brutal incident. Gandhiji now felt a need of to launch a more broad based movement in India.

6)There was a criticism that Rowlatt sathyagraha was limited mostly to towns and cities,..

in 1919,the british govement passed rowlatt act in this act the british government have authority to arrest and imprison any indian without any trial.

the people were outraged by implication of this act.
