Answer: Dhondia Wagh was an Indian plunderer and soldier belonging to the 18th century.
Dhondia Wagh was born at Channagiri, in the Kingdom of Mysore.
He was a cavalry officer under Tipu Sultan, which he left, along with several other soldiers, during the 3rd Anglo-Mysore War; and after the end of the war, he started capturing villages which were given by Mysore to the Marathas.
In the year 1794, he was forced to escape by Dhondu Pant, an officer of the Maratha Army. He went back to Tipu Sultan and even though he abandoned Tipu Sultan before, he was forgiven and given a place in the Mysore Army, under an Islamic name of Shaikh Ahmad. Soon after that, he found himself against Tipu Sultan once again and hence, was imprisoned by him.
Upon the defeat of Tipu Sultan, Wagh, along with other prisoners were released by the British, and then Wagh started forming his own army, which counted up to about 90000 cavalry and 80000 infantry. He started terrorizing villages and collected taxes and in no time, he fell under the radar of the British Army.
By June 1800, a full fledged army was sent by the British to defeat Wagh and although he remained to flee for a long time, he was finally killed on 10th September, 1800 in a battle with General Wellesley in present day Raichur district, Karnataka.
