The Mahalwari system was introduced by Holt Mackenzie in the year 1822.

Under the system, the revenue was collected from the lands that are in the village and the revenue should be collected by the people of the village community itself.

Advantages:

Amount of revenue was not fixed by the people.

The amount was revised as per their needs.

Disadvantages:

The revenue amount was too high thus burdening people.
