Answer:

Santhals are a tribal group in Rajmahal hills of Jharkhand and West Bengal.

British wanted to exploit the timber and other forest produces of hills but the place was habitated by Santhals who, like other tribals didnt want to disturb their traditional culture and methods. They resented oppression by revenue officials, police, moneylenders, landlords and declared themselves independent under leadership of Sido and Kanhu. Their main motive was to remove British and outsiders from Santhal areas. This led to the rising of Santhal rebellion of 1854.

As a result, British had to create a seperate district of Santhal Pargana to pacify the Santhals.

Hope it answers your question.
