The one—party panchayat regime was challenged in Nepal in 1990.
It was an attempt to revolt against the King’s rule in the country against the wishes of the masses.
But it backfired for it could not be carried out emphatically.
Then, Nepal witnessed a changed scenario when BP Koirala came into power with his party.
But gradually Nepal suffered setbacks in the form of parties becoming parochial and failing to create mass awareness, too caught up in their intra-party conflicts.
Nepal is still struggling to establish forceful democracy but for that it will have to strike an effective balance between the monarchy, the bureaucracy and the Parliament.
