When Louis XVI succeeded the throne of France, he came to knew that the treasury was empty. It's reasons were that they(the nobles) wanted an extravagent and very very beautiful court. Moreover, they were helping thirteen American colonies to gain independence from their common enemy, Britain. As a result, the treasury emptied and the debt was increases to 2 Billion livres.
