Answer:

Assertive Nationalism was the period between ( 1905 - 1916 ) in success to Early nationalist or moderates.

The Early Nationalist failed to attain their objectives, giving rise to Assertive Nationalism.

The following were the causes of Assertive Nationalism :

a) RECOGNITION OF TRUE NATURE OF BRITISH RULE :The political work done by early nationalist had exposed the true nature of British imperialism to the Indian masses and made them realise that national progress was not possible unless it was replaced by government run by Indians. Between 1892 and 1905 , the British colonial government had reduced the number of Indian members in the Calcutta Corporation and put severe restrictions on the Press.

As the result of these unjust policies, the ideology of assertive nationalism began to receive more and more approval from the Indian populace.

b) FAILURE OF THE EARLY NATIONALIST :The early nationalists were accused of middle class elitism and had failed to achieve any substantial gain due to their moderate, mendicant approach of Constitutional Petitioning. They often proclaimed their loyalty to the British crown and remained concentrated only in getting seats in the Central Provincial Legislature or Judiciary services. Assertive Nationalist, on the other hand, advocated the adoption of more activist and even revolutionary methods against British imperialism. As the result , the early nationalist movement was on the vain and that of Assertive Nationalist was increasing.

c)The famine and plague, worsening the economic conditions, partition of Bengal and ill treatment of Indians in South Africa were also the cause of rise of assertive nationalism in India.
