The main reasons of revolt among Indian rulers during the revolt of 1857 are: 1. Indian soldiers were ill treated and also their wages were less than the British soldiers and the rank of Indian soldiers were lower than the Britishers. 2. There was a major cut in their salaries due to the withdrawal of their foreign service allowance. 3. They were not allowed to use their religious symbols. 4. The rules laid in 1856 made the soldiers mandatory to serve overseas. 5. The Soldiers were forced to travel overseas through sea route and if someone insisted for a land route, they were punished.
