  • The Maratha methods of warfare were woefully archaic and no match for the modern tactics of the Company army.

  • The Maratha state extracted the revenues of chauth and sardeshmukhi forcefully. This led to a lot of heartburn and animosity.
  • As a result, when the Company mounted an attack on the Marathas, the latter did not get any help.
