1. British exploitated the Indian goods.

The most important cause was the Cartridges of the Enfield Rifle. It was a greased cartridge. It was rumoured that the grease was the fat of pigs and cows. To load the bullets one had to bite off the greased paper. This hurt the religious sentiments of the Indians.
