Causes of withdrawal of the Non-cooperation Movement: (i) Due to the Chauri Chaura incident where 22 policemen were burnt alive, Mahatma Gandhi decided to withdraw the movement. (ii) He felt the movement was turning violent in many places and satyagrahis needed to be trained properly for mass movement.

Gandhiji decided to withdrawl the non cooperation movement because:

1. The non cooperation movement spread to the cities to countryside. Different section of society interpreted this movement differently.

2. The name of Gandhi invokes to sanction all actions and aspirations

3.In 1922, the Chauri-Chaura incident took place where 22-23 policemen died due to violent Clash between people and police which disheartened Gandhiji deeply and he called off the movement.

He didn't tolerate violence at any cost.
